Guimaras Oil Spill Photos

According to news reports, the oil spill has so far contaminated 239 kilometers of coastline and mangroves, affected 16 coastal barangays and displaced 2,000 fisherfolk in Guimaras. Guimaras Governor Rahman Nava said that the 1,100-hectare Taclong National Marine Reserve was also heavily damaged. The Special Board of Marine Inquiry will investigate reports that M/T Solar I allegedly was overloaded with oil when it sank during last week's typhoon.

What a hell!!!
Petron Corp. and the ship owner should be liable for the damage to marine and coastal ecosystems caused by the oil spill off. They will also help the people affected by this.

That is HUGE. I hope all involved will take their responsibilities promptly and compensate all that was "injured" by the Oil Spills and also an Independent Inquiries should be called as the the cause of the mishap. No delay-daly, this is a very serious threat to the environment.

an urgent call for help, from ms. Ging Lujan, of Seafdec
The monsoon is going towards the direction of negros
Island. Gani wala patawad ini. Disastrous gid.

The most immediate help that everybody can do is go to
the place and help in the manual clean-up. Right now
we dont have the technology to degrade the oil here in
the Philippines. In other countries like Japan and
Europe, they have microbes to digest the oil. The
coastguard have a sophisticated laboratory to test the
presence of pollutants but the remedial measures is
limited to few liters of oil siguro. If its 10 to the
sixth liters will be difficult for them. They will
need the help of thousands of people to do the thing
manually. Kahit this will be crude method to remove
and contain the oil.

We are organizing a group of volunteers in Buenavista
to go there on saturday. We need sacks and plastic
sheets. Gathering to sign-up at this moment. The more
people that will join the best. One person will get 2
liters of oil. Multiply that to a thousand mga 2K
liters. Very good gid. Tani mga taga Iloilo can join
us too.

Will do that. BTW we are also busy containing the oil spill from reaching Pulang Pasayan islet(which is near SEAFDEC) and have put up bamboo barriers already. We need more sacks and rice husks though.

During the onset of the oil spill, I heard a Petron representative speak about the EGF and how, since Petron regularly contributes to the said international fund (as their sort of insurance for disasters like this), it should be EGF that should pay for the clean up. I haven't ready any follow up story in local media to date.

WHO SHOULD BE BLAMED? PETRON?! Uhh... I dont think so! It is the liability of that company's ship which sank why it was out in the water knowing that there was a typhoon at that time and that their ship was way to old and rust to be doing that kind of thing. Think people, Petron only contracted that shipping line to deliver the oil. M/T Solar 1 is to blame!!
